Rocco's Play Day

The U.S. Open ended after a tie, then a tie of the next 18 holes with just Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate playing, and sudden death playoff which left Woods at 71 and Mediate at 72.

Over dinner tonight I told Mom and Dad, "Rocco must have thought he had died and gone to Heaven, since he was playing [the second] eighteen holes against Tiger Woods alone. Here he is, ranked 158th, and playing Tiger."

"And almost beating him," Mom noted.

We watched a local TV station at lunchtime which reported from a Murrysville restaurant in which Rocco's golfing buddies were drinking beer and watching him on the television set. One of his friends noted that, "None of us are surprised with what Rocco is doing now," as they watched the neck-in-neck competition between Rocco and Tiger. Rocco led for most of the second eighteen holes.

It was noted that this is the first time Tiger has competed since knee surgery mid-April.
