The NEW (English) translation...First Sunday of Advent, 2011

It was a new liturgical year this past weekend, starting with the anticipated Masses on Saturday. With it, it brought IMMENSE changes in the liturgy of the Mass for Americans. There were laminated prayer cards in the pews, and everyone in choir had a handout, "Changes in the Parts of the People in the Order of Mass in the Roman Missal, Third Edition," from the US Conference of Catholic Bishops' website.

Several times in choir we were sprung,"The Lord be with you,"
and we responded (no, not "and also with you.")
"and with your Spirit,"

which are about half the congregation's responses that changed.

This Sunday at noon Father Josh from the Oratory said Mass, and I strongly recall a strong congregational response to the greeting. I also recall Fr. Josh saying before the Gospel reading,
"The Lord be with you,"
and the congregation responding in unison:
Half or so responding: "and also with you..(a beat)..and with your Spirit."
and the balance responding, in unison: "and with your Spirit."
Followed by an audible giggle that arose from the congregation, to the choir loft and rafters.
