Complete Persepolis

I just finished reading The Complete Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi.

It reminded me of my former lab coworker, Z, who, along with her husband, had left Persia. In the mid-1980's she greatly missed her family, and told me stories of happier times. Her son had made drawings for me, and she admitted that she was worried for her family. She told stories of women caught wearing short sleeves who had their arms slashed in anger, for they had apparently opposed the then-current government. She felt safe and relatively happy here in Western society, which allowed women to hold positions in academia.
