Heinz Chapel Choir Winter Concert 2007

This week Joe, Tina, Don, and I went to the faculty concert given by the Heinz Chapel Choir. They sang international holiday songs, including some old standbys such as "Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella," and there were songs for audience participation, such as "Silent Night." Vocalizes were important accents for many of the songs, a pleasant, fresh surprise for those songs.

The concert consisted of an organ prelude, Coventry Carol, played by Steven Anisko; followed by

Ave Maris Stella (Basque, Javier Busto)
Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella (French carol, arr. E. Lojeski)
followed by two verses of
Silent Night! sung by the choir and audience;
followed by the choir singing
Miserere mei, Domine (Italian, Gregorio Allegri)
See that Babe (Spiritual, N. Ryder)
Sweet Was the Song (American, arr. Tom Cunningham)
S'vivon (Israeli Hanukkah song, arr. Chilcott)
The Sleigh (Russian, R. Kountz)
Let It Snow! (20th C. American, Cahn-Styne/Richards)

Joy to the World! sung by the choir and audience.
There was an organ postlude,
Magnificat Prima Toni (D. Buxtehude)

The choir was directed by John Goldsmith. I spotted Rachel H. in the choir, a former member of the St. Paul Cathedral Choir.
