Chris Hondros
Thursday before choir practice Nancy C. and I went to a lecture/slide show by Chris Hondros. He is an award-winning international photojournalist who presented his photographs of contemporary war zones throughout the world. His images have appeared on the covers of major publications such as the New York Times, the Economist, and Newsweek.
It was a wonderful lecture/slide show in which Chris showed painterly photos, and discussed symbolism in imagery, such as crucifixion, pietas, Andrew Wyeth-like compositions, and madonna-and-child, as well as the particulars of working in war zones. A particularly riveting photo of a young Iraqi girl wailing in the dark after the accidental death of her parents in their family car moved the audience to the point that he revealed the long series of photojournalism shots taken around the story/event.
Nancy and I had a chance to discuss with him after the lecture, which filled a packed room in the Cathedral of Learning to the floor and doorways.
We then ran an errand to CVS and dined at Middle Eastern food on Forbes Avenue before heading to choir practice.
