Sloth (Practical Theology) and Karina's Birthday Celebration

Fr. Joshua and Fr. Stephen led a practical theology discussion group on the concept of sloth (the opposite of which is doing acts or speaking with joy/charity/love). We spoke about boredom, and filling one's day with the opposite of being "focused on one's calling, always keeping [one's eye on the prize] by staying focused with passion, like Jesus had passion for what he was called for in life. Sloth is the opposite of being focused on one's calling with passion; sloth is the opposite of following the way or the path of Christ. That is why it is a Deadly Sin." Actually, sloth is a serious sin because it leads to more sins, as Fr. Joshua pointed out to me.

After the discussion group, Karina and I went to Eucharistic Adoration. Then, Karina and I invited Christina and Rachel to join us for dinner. We went to Squirrel Hill for the live jazz evening and dinner. Matthew was our server and he made certain that Karina's name and birthday were mentioned by the jazz combo. They played a few bars of "Happy Birthday" and then sprung into "You've Changed." We enjoyed dinner and the 10-pound apple pie. As I drove us home, we agreed to meet again Sunday evening.
