Hurricane/ Tropical Storm/ Superstorm Sandy

After their "Thanksgiving" dinner together, I arrived from work to find the family (with Kelly) enjoying the singing of Beatrice and company to the karaoke tune "Dancing Queen."  Soon after William's family left, we watched attentively---and with sheer awe at the powers of nature---the news about Superstorm Sandy, which hit land in the Northeast United States late Sunday. 

The mass transit was shut down in New York City Sunday (subways at 7pm, busses at 9pm), select tunnels into the city were also closed Sunday night, and we were glad that Kelly was with us, here, away from the Eastern Seaboard.  The New York Stock Exchange is closed today, for the second day in a row.  Washington, DC mass transit is closed today, as are most government offices.  I heard on the radio that 16 deaths have ensued from the storm, and the television last night reported one man perished by being pinned by a tree which fell on him. 

The news last night was from Battery Park, with the reporter wading about, pointing out how people were frolicking in the same area of the park earlier yesterday, and pointing out the dark shore of New Jersey and Jersey City across the way.  Con Edison had lost and had subsequently shut off power to scores of customers, leaving those who had decided to wait out the storm and stay in the cold dark.
