Diocesan Choir Festival

Last Sunday, the 9th of October, was the Diocesan Choir Festival at the Holy Trinity Church in Robinson Township, just south of Pittsburgh. The event was organized by Don Fellows, our Music Director and Choir Master. Our choir performed selections, some with the combined choirs (eight total choirs). The selections performed by the combined choirs were: Thy Matchless Love (A. Fedak); Ave Maria (J. Biery); Be in My Seeing (W. Wold); and several other hymns. Adam Brakel, one of our organists, played a prelude by Bach. The St. Paul Cathedral Choir sang My Song Shall Alway of the Loving Kindness of the Lord (G. Near); and Ave Verum Corpus (C. Gounod). A choir from Braddock performed a Magnificat, and a choir from Sewickley performed a gospel piece. I like the melody of Thy Matchless Love and Be In My Seeing.
Of course, the day revolved around food, too. After singing at noon Mass, Jessica and I had lunch at the Orient Express (a new restaurant affiliated with the Orient Kitchen on Baum Blvd). Then, after rehearsing, our choir went to get snacks and drinks, ranging from homemade pumpkin bread to cookies, granola bars, and fruit; provided by the Robinson Twp. team. After the festival was over, Don took a couple of photos of part of our choir (see below).

Some of us then met up at St. Paul's (via Wexford, for one car!) and had a delicious dinner at the Union Grill--where I said hello to Fr. Drew Morgan from the Oratory, who was dining with a visiting priest. It was a long day, but well worth it.
