Dizzy Gillespie All Stars

This past Saturday I went with a friend from college, Debbie, to Dizzy Gillespie's Alumni All Star Big Band. We had a great dinner beforehand at Thai Cuisine of chicken satay, vegetarian yellow coconut milk curry, and pad thai. The food was delicious, and the Big Band was great. The Big Band had a full, strong sound, and were recorded that night. They were joined later in the program by Roberta Gambarini---a singer---for a couple of numbers, and she supplied an exceptional range and the technical skill to scat nimbly and to sing soulfully with the group.

Debbie's been recruiting for Semester at Sea for the past few weeks, so she's been on the road. She left for Atlanta early yesterday morning for yet another round of recruiting, including at Morehouse. A'lanna (or is it HOTlanta?) should be nice to visit this time of the year.
