Readers / Lectors for Mass Meeting 2011
Fr. Steve Palsa gathered some of the readers / lectors for Mass together this afternoon. He read a passage from Hebrews 4:12, "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." In discussing the meaning of that passage, Bettina spoke of an interview of Elie Wiesel by Bill Moyers, in which the survivor of the Holocaust stated that when language fails, violence becomes a language. Fr. Steve P mentioned that we are servants of the word of God; we proclaim the word of God.
We spoke of guidelines and adjustments (scheduling and format), safe environment requirements. We listened to and were critiquing our colleagues: First Ed, then Matt, then Elizabeth. We spoke of preparation (including the Workbook for the Sunday Proclaimers of the Word, television ministry, and the Lectio Divina), and Leland spoke about the sacred cogitation/ meditation on Scripture, re-quoting Hebrews 4:12 (even as he was not present at the beginning of our meeting!)

Before the meeting I sent summer photos to Caro and Gerthild, and viewed Lauren's wedding photos with Maureen, and made criteria and looked at Maureen's possible insurance policies to help her decide.
