Wellesley Brunch: Meet the Composer

Just returned from the Pittsburgh Wellesley Club brunch which I had organized.  It was a brunch to "Meet the Composer---Nico Muhly."  One of the first discussions we had was about paint, me, and the Studio Art building at Wellesley, as his mom had told him stories about that. 

We were a gently mixed (not shaken) group at brunch--Deb, Mijung, and I arrived in one car, and Chris M (our representative "other" composer in the bunch) arrived, then Nico rolled downstairs for brunch.  We all opted for the Saturday Brunch, and then our discussion covered everything from the art and philosophy of composing, the power tool sounds in the hallway, his parents' home growing up and visiting family on Christmas Eve, cruise ships, Parisian coffee houses (baristas, after-coffee mints, O my!), travelling with/without one's partner, et al.  The warm coffee and cold orange juice poured, and the effervescent conversation continued.

What a warm, accommodating individual Nico is!  Opening night in Pittsburgh is tonight, and the echoes of our collective laughter from our table in the restaurant still ring in my memory.  We took a group photo, must download it to make it accessible to the rest of the group.
