SUN 05 SEPT 2021
We watched the 10.00 Mass from the Cathedral. Bishop David A Zubik and Fr Kris Stubna concelebrated the Mass. Carole DiC lectored, and cantor was accompanied by the organist at the mighty Beckerath console. There were 4 servers: Luke, the regular 10 AM Sunday server, and joined by 2 other young men. Rich DiC was a Eucharistic Minister, and Judi N was scheduled, as well.
Bishop Zubik delivered the Homily, which touched on various points--Mother Theresa, now St. Teresa of Kolkata, stressed to her workers that one must see the person of Jesus Christ in even a foul person...we are Jesus to him, and he is Christ to us.  He also noted that the miracle in the Gospel reading today (Mark 7:31-37) occurred with Jesus acting in a very tactile manner. Jesus was in an area where there were Gentiles/goyim. Here was Christ acting as the Living Word---Jesus was willing, and Is willing, to get involved in the messiness of our lives, in the problems of his people. At this point, the Bishop mentioned that to have our hearts healed, Jesus is willing to become involved in any one of [our] messes: Broken trust leading to [any one of a number of situations, including] divorce, or [situations leading to] guilt or pain.
The Bishop also spoke about the movie The King's Speech, about England's King George VI, whose speech therapist was an Angel to him.
Helped M set up the Zoom link for JPangan's Memorial Mass.
Later in the day WA stopped by with dinner of Chinese takeout/takeaway, which we enjoyed with Jasmine rice and tilapia in black bean sauce, which M and I prepared.

MON 06 SEPT 2021- LABOR DAY
Awoke early, and while tying my shoes M called to remind me to bring the grater and to get radish to grate for a poultice. I went to the corner store, where the cost was $3.24, so I gave the fellow $5.25. He gave me a penny and said, OK. I reminded him that I gave him $5.25, and he gave me a dollar. I said, I gave you $5.25. He said "Oh," and he gave me the last dollar in change.
Made a Tibetan medicine poultice of the daikon for M's knee.
Lunch with D and M. Helped M with correspondence, including 2 Mass folders/cards, one each for Jose P and Erly V's families.

Fr Reed Frey celebrated the Mass, with 3 servers (Antonio, the regular 10.00 Mass server, and the young tow-headed boy with spectacles). Becky cantored, accompanied by an organist in the loft. Mary McCrory proclaimed the Word as a lector, and the Eucharistic Ministers were Rich DiC, Jeff Schn..., and Tom G.
The homily delivered by Fr Reed was succinct, and tied in to the three Mass readings today.

After lunch chez D and M, I went to deliver a package for the durable medical device company. There were lots of wedding parties crawling all over Oakland, due to the proximity of the churches, synagogues, and chapels, as well as the Mellon Insitute. On the way back I took some photos of the University of Pittsburgh Black Lives in Focus outdoor exhibit. Wow! Watched an infomercial on episodes of the Flip Wilson show, and also the 1st episode of Mr Bean (his taking an exam and his visit to the beach).

SUN 19 SEPT 2021
Attended the television ministry Mass at 10.00 from Cathedral. Fr Kris Stubna was the main celebrant, assisted by Fr Steve Palsa and with Deacon Tom Berna. There were 3 servers---Antonio, the little short bespectacled boy, and (perhaps?) a seminarian. Angelo cantored, accompanied by DKF. Julie Beroes lectored, and there was one Eucharistic Minister,

Fr Kris's sermon was about the story of the British mountain climber, Dan Mazur, who helped to rescue the Australian mountain climber Lincoln Ross Hall, who was left for dead en route from Everest's peak. Mazur's party forfeited their dream to reach the summit in saving Hall's life. When questioned later, Dan Mazur stated that he had no regrets and that the summit "will always be there,"...Lincoln Hall "has only one life to live."

Fr Kris went on to say that too often, people say that [situations] are "somebody else's problem, not mine," and that we must do what is Right and Just; what will make us great in the eyes of God.
