Mother's Day Weekend 2020= SAT 09 MAY 2020 to Pentecost SUNDAY= 31 MAY 2020
SAT 09 MAY 2020-
Receipts from Malaking Big Bird's Palenke and an early Dad's Day present from North Oakland (according to him, for home repairs).
SUN 10 MAY 2020-
Awoke early for Mother's Day and schlepped the second batch of food to make to the parents' home. Made
Pancakes with whole milk sweetened yogurt and mixed berries, and whipped cream
Green Spring Salad with Balsamic Dressing
Homemade Cheese Pimiento Spread on Artisinal Bread
Tea and Water
Before eating we watched the 10/00 Mass from Cathedral on television.
Fr Kris Stubna celebrated, Julie Beroes lectored, and Linda Ortenzo cantored. Theh Ave Maria at the Preparation of Gifts was not familiar.
We worked on Fbook and email missives before Zooming with William and family (save BF); k and K's pod, including their new doggie, H; and JO and G's family (save M); and we had great fun, including discussions about opening sequences and musical themes for television series!
JO shared a quiz with 30 total questions re: TV series' music themes. I got more than half correct (17/30), and---not so bad, considering the music themes were for the whole decade during which I was born in the second half of the decade!
Saddened to hear at the 10.00 televised Mass that JEB, one of my former supervisors, passed away this week. Froze last night, even with multiple layers, gloves, socks, two scarves, a hoodie, and dalawang kumut! So when invited to stay in a warmer room, I did.
MON 11 MAY 2020-
Went home to take care of ablutions and phone correspondences. Had lunch, then a phone appointment. Went to check on D and M. Dinner of lasagna, pork chops, garlic toast, cheese pimiento spread, sliced mangoes, Yum!
Plans for B study. Yay!
I will be in a warmer room today, as well. Retrieved mail and supplies.
I've been collecting recipes online---more than I'd be able to prepare in a week, I've been collecting in a day, on average.
TUE 12 MAY 2020-
Woke early to write a sympathy card (and another to the correct address), and 2 cards to two friends, N and C.
Went grocery shopping in Friendship/Shadyside and in Big Bird's palenke in Shadyside. Helped prepare dinner: Pot roast. Wrote an online sympathy card,

then helped M with messages for BW and a Mom's Day missive to extended and immediate family.
WED 13 MAY 2020-
Zoomed with Fr Mike for Bible Study, for a total of ~7 Zoom secular Oratory tiles+1 phone caller. It was a great success. D and M and I were mobile between 3 tiles the whole time.
I suggested utilizing university (Zoom) resources in an email afterwards.
A had stopped by during the Zoom time at D and M's.
I made a phone call for LS this afternoon. Had a chance to chat with some long-time friend, and a new friend, too. CD and I chatted in the parklet after I had taken some photos of Cathedral, and after she had gone on a walk of our neighborhood---replete with sunbathing people on the green between the libraries. Pot roast for dinner. Jeopardy! after.
THU 14 MAY 2020-
According to the news (Post-Gazette.com?), as of today there have been 1545 cases of COVID-19 in Allegheny County, composed of 1468 confirmed + 77 probable cases since 14 MARCH 2020 to this morning.
In Allegheny County, there have been 139 deaths, 10 of which are probable.
Made some calls in the morning. Helped M with a phone call, scanning, and emails. Enjoyed egg noodle breakfast with vegetables and chicken bullion for breakfast, and Champorado (courtesy of M) with 2% milk for a late lunch! It's now 67 Fahrenheit at 16.25. Still inside, though.
Chatted with MVK about weeding my clothes from the closet. We spoke about the environmental impact of (fast) fashion, e.g.- "nobody wants my old clothes...the people in other countries do not want my throwaway fashion." Then, she mentioned "the world versus my closet." I supported that with, "The personal is political." Then, I began to evaluate and weed my short-sleeve, 3/4-to-long-sleeve, and no-sleeve tops; as well as my colorful clothes closet.
FRI 15 MAY 2020-
Worked on weeding my closet of clothes and my land phone of a digital answering machine. Clothes which no longer fit or looked good became "hand-me-rounds." Had a sandwich for lunch. Helped D with computer keyboard issues. Paid an insurance bill. Just spent ~ 20 minutes under the overcast skies of Pittsburgh. The smell of impending rain and whistling, playing birds sent me inside before the thunderstorms.
SAT 16 MAY 2020-
It was a warm day. Sat outside in the garden to enjoy the warm weather. About 70 Fahrenheit at its warmest.
SUN 17 MAY 2020-
Went to grocery shopping at Friendship/Shadyside and to Malaki'ng Bird's palenke in Shadyside for a large head of lettuce. D and M and I watched the noon Mass from St. Mary of the Point. Fr. Ed Muge celebrated the Mass with Fr. Chris from Morningside and Fr Joe Freedy concelebrating. Fr. Ed was celebrating his 17th year as a priest (he was ordained in Nigeria). His homily made some important points, some of which were sung:
"The Spirit of God is one of Love.
"God uses us [in a good way].
"Jesus gives [to] us in the Cross.
"That's Grace.
"[God takes us from] where we are...to where we will be."
Made lunch; mid-afternoon participated in the family Zoom meeting. All but the sistahs left the meeting at 17.00...we chatted light chat, then.
MON 18 MAY 2020-
Caught up with more phone calls---left messages again.
Delivered birthday presents to WA, SC; a philosophy of beauty and art book for BF. Left M and D's birthday presents for WA and SC (collared and an embroidered shirt for them).
An emailed note replying to PH from work on TUES 19 MAY 2020:
"My family is echoing yours. I see...and check on [them] daily (and they make certain I'm well-fed). All birthdays have been celebrated with my sibs near and far via Zoom online. I just dropped off some birthday gifts from my parents and myself to the porch of my brother's family across town (We haven't seen them in person since 01 March). I had a chance to chat briefly with my sis-in-law, who had potted some cuttings.
TUE 19 MAY 2020-
A nice chat with SH by Our Lady of Craig Street. We discussed choirs and choral singing. We went for my groceries on Craig Street, then departed after sending virtual hugs to each other. Had my usual COVID-19 breakfast of oatmeal and yogurt, with Chai with milk and sweetener.
Got a second phone call from LS's office, set up a phone appointment for later this week. Went to D and M and joined them for lunch with orange-orange Jello. Zoom meeting with Akw and Nn (ice cream meeting without the ice cream). I will be vetting the incoming prospectives.
WED 20 MAY 2020-
Had Bible Study this morning. Fr Mike and 5 full-time participants. Talked about the readings for Ascension Sunday. I read the1st reading, Tyler read the second, and Pablo A read the Gospel reading. Quite detailed and lively discussion.
Went home and sorted through my scarves, organizing some of them. Chatted with D and M's neighbor KB while waiting for A to hand off the box, as I will weed more clothes from my closet.
Vetted 7/11 incoming prospectives. Taking a break now.
THU 21 MAY 2020-
Had a phone appointment this morning. Went to D and M's for dinner. Watched Jeopardy! again! Fun.
FRI 22 MAY 2020-
Spent the morning biking for 25 minutes and catching up with phone correspondences.
After dinner with D and M (Arroz Caldo), we all watched Jeopardy! The new champion, Morgan, initiated an elbow bump with the host, Alex Trebek...indicative of the beginning of awareness of SARS-CoV-2 in the recorded episodes.
SAT 23 MAY 2020-
Had brunch chez D et M--homemade tuna salad sandwiches. Input the prospectives, with their information. Indicated which of the 11 were vetted, too. Took a short nap, watched some videos on M's computer, and took a brief nap before starting a load of laundry.
SUN 24 MAY 2020-
Watched Sunday Mass at the Cathedral with Fr. Adam Potter celebrating, Christina McC cantoring, Ken D at the console, Tom B as server, and Carole DiC as lector.
Warm day.
Voter ballot was received by the county.
Bought cards for M and B for birthdays.
MON 25 MAY 2020- MEMORIAL DAY 2020
Updated res. Cert to k and K. Zoom time with Lo and la, WA and family, and JO and Aug, BAM. The highlight of the afternoon was observing WA give Beatles-styled SC a haircut with clippers. SC looked so pleased to receive a new haircut.
TUE 26 MAY 2020-
I won this week's 7S Trivia contest! Wow!
No Bible Study this week; Fr Mike cancelled for now.
Received delivery of closet hangers.
Worked on posts for Tita Mely Casino with M.
17.30- NMB just sent in the Letter of Inquiry for RAH. Yay!
WED 27 MAY 2020-
Received some hangers earlier this week; organized 8 sets for the left side of a closet. Chatted with DKF. Drive safe and save insurance discount will be looked into. MM sent me how to use sourdough starter discard.
THU 28 MAY 2020-
Spoke by phone with a friend about organizing home and work information and items. Took the list for shopping at Wholey's. Bought most items. Drove the car up to the front to pick up the items.
Spoke to MM about getting some of her sourdough starter. Watched Jeopardy! with M.
FRI 29 MAY 2020-
Around 08.00 sat in the garden to enjoy the coolness before the heat of the day. Updated some documents before 09.00 chez D and M. Happily received homemade sourdough starter from MM---gave BF 2 cool clothes and WA some letters for D and him. Made two portions of it. DR stopped by later in the day, we did an exchange of her portion of sourdough starter for macaroni and cheese (homemade in the slow cooker!). Fed the beast---oop, the yeasties---about a half hour early, at 20.30 pm.
Fed it ~1/2 cup tap water, mixed it in; and then ~2/3 cup of flour, then sifted (then mixed to smoothen).
Spent the evening selecting recipes, printing some, on sourdough starter and discard. MM gave me some ideas for pancakes, onion rings and scallion pancakes (from discard); and bread (from starter).
SAT 30 MAY 2020-
Gospel Acclamation- John 7: 37-39
Preparation of the Gifts- O Breathe in Me, O Breath of God
COMMUNION
Helped M until ~22.30 with clearing, cleaning, and scanning important files. Will shred excess tomorrow.
