SAT 15 MAY 2021
Went grocery shopping today, and topped off the tank (@ $3.19 per gallon, for travels about town) right before a walk with SN and her H at 9Mr. We spotted the beaver's last evacuated home, downstream a duck couple dining on the creek, a nearby sandpiper on the sandy bank (when I spotted this, I had yet to see a freshwater sandpiper), the beaver's newest home (sans Mr Beaver), dark pink-purple lupin on the upper river bank, evidence of the beaver's gnawing and felling trees, and we turned around close to the beaver's new home (there was artwork on a nearby tree). On the way back H chased bubbles in the water, a large grouping of fungus/mushrooms were spotted, a patch of white violets, another patch of 6-petalled larger flowers, what looked to be a Large, brighter red aphid (which SN stated was an arachnid), birch and sycamore bark, more evidence of beaver's felling trees, a couple of birders who had spotted a cedar waxwing, and what I thought was a male cardinal on the opposite shore of the creek. We had great fun. It was an extra strength Tylenol night and an early bedtime tonight!
SUN 16 MAY 2021
D, M, and I attended the televised 10.00 Mass from Cathedral. The 7th Sunday of Easter (B) was celebrated, Lectionary 60. Bishop David A Zubik celebrated the Mass, with Deacon Tom Berna. Servers were 6, with Erica Gamerro, Antonio, and the youngest bespeckled regular 10AM server, the usual 10AM server from last summer, and two more (who may have been seminarians). Shane cantored, with seemingly Ken at the console, Kimo J was the reader.
Bishop Zubik started off the Mass mentioning a "4-letter word,....Love." During his homily, he mentioned that there were fewer people at 10.00 Mass, [due to college students' being graduated, doing summer projects, and going home] and there were also fewer seminarians about, as well. At evening prayer he mentioned,
"May the Lord so fire up your soul
that may other people be attracted to God through you."
and, to "Flip it,
'[Remember] people [who] in their lives brought you to God.'"
In the reading today, the apostle John asks us to "see God, know God, and love God through [our] beliefs."
When we Flip the idea, then "those who ha[ve led] you to God,... [then] God became visible to us people, who impressed us."
"[They have become a] visible sign of the invisible God. We've got to show it, [through] Words and Deeds, [the Power of God}."
"May the Lord so continue to fire up your soul
that other people may be attracted to God through you."
The Communion Hymn was "Lord, You Have the Words of Everlasting Life."
After Mass I went grocery shopping at Friendship/Shadyside, and at Shadyside. M prepared tilapia in black bean sauce for lunch, and a dish with ampalaya. I took a long nap, did continuous 162 days of online language learning. I'm still in Dmnd league.
