Brought M for her haircut with As. We purchased a reused chair for her to use whilst watching Jeopardy!
Brought up M's food from the picnic, got some food myself, and D joined from Co's and MeGo's table (with An and LeTe, and with their 1st year daughter) StBe, BeBer, and WiBe, and myself. I scooted upstairs to bring M (and me) dessert. I left soon after with a tray of Devilled Eggs for DW's patio/porch party. The Gw's, JS, JM, and BG were all present, and we enjoyed the breeze on the porch and meeting DW's newest addition to the kitty family!

Lectored for the noon Mass. Fr Kris Stubna celebrated the Mass. Ted W served. Brian was the organist and Linda O cantored. Lots of uni students, and included visitors, too. William Wilberforce maneuvers through British Parliament to abolish slavery, and even stands on a table to sing the song written by John Newton, a some-time slave ship captain-turned-Christian. This is a moving, faith-filled, grace-filled true story that I hope to watch portrayed in this film sometime.
Spotted friends from choir (JoAl, BeAl, Vic..., and others), as well as ReCr and her brother, ReCr, with my D after Mass. Walked back with ND.
I had lunch and a Sunday nap. Soon after, I went for a walk to campus with StLH to post choir poster, and for an ice cream sandwich on this almost-90-degree-day. Almost got run over (despite our Correctly being in the pedestrian crosswalk at the right time) by a sedan ("aggressive!{SLH}"ly) driven, according to S.
Family Zoom ensued after, and J O hosted. We all sang to GMc. I noted that BAM now resembled Inigo Montoya, "you killed my father, prepare to die," con su bigote.
Blogging catch-up, dinner, and trying to reach ReCr to catch up. Watched the last part of Pennies from Heaven with Bing Crosby.

MON 04 SEPT 2023- Labor Day
Online language learning, shower, minor decluttering, headed to D and M's. Call ReCr to catch up. Happy Labor Day! Took an afternoon nap before helping M wrap lumpia, then I air-fried them. Had dinner with D and M. Delicious! Emailed WA and MM info from NLM this afternoon. Almost time for Jeopardy!

Walking telemed appointment on way to language classe. Ate a sandwich and homemade banana bread for lunch. A group meeting afterwards. Am still looking for my plate. JaO showed me a poem about the process of it. Pleasant enough day. Telephone conversations/catch up during the afternoon.

Phone appointments, bad news. Decided against seeing a movie with ReCr---I proposed seeing a biographical movie later, which we agreed to do.

Went with M to the local drugstore to return sundries. Grocery shopping with M at Palenkeng de Malaking Aguila in Shadyside. Attended my Zoom language class.

K stopped by to check on M and D. Hand trouble. M helped to fix it. Had a large snack of a fish sandwich and mac before heading out to work the AGO's Organ Artists Series/ Cathedral Concert Series concert presented by Nicholas Capozzoli. Quite an unorthodox selection for a program---how refreshing and enjoyable! The program consisted of:

In the first piece, Capozzoli plays the traditional German counterpoint with lithe power, making the audience aware of the layers, without playing them as distinctly separate. Nicholas displays his mastery of the Pittsburgh von Beckerath instrument, which he had been practicing upon this past week.
The Dutch piece by van Noordt was different from the Buxtehude.
Mendelssohn's work NC had performed for a Montreal Cirque du Soleil troupe member, who then choreographed to this Variations Serieuses. Just when you think the organist has played the final flair, a controlled jumble of notes spills from the organ!
Shogaku is a Japanese-influenced piece based on court music, composed of dissonant chords and open 5ths, followed by layers with ominous runs, then the sound of a chandelier crashing....then single notes calling out.
Fantasy and Fugue by Liszt travels from minor to Major in the course of the piece, displaying the piece's "sparkly camp personality (NC)." There were fortissimo distinct runs, sections displaying the horn section pipes, major steps, meditative passages, threatening clouds, cantering gait, more horns, ending in the final massively fortissimo chords.

It was a delight to work this concert, and Brian and I discussed the concert briefly before I went to meet the artist. It was a certain delight to meet the artist afterwards.
My classmate, De, and I chatted en fr whilst waiting in line to speak to Nicholas. We greeted him in French, and we 3 chatted in English. He autographed a program as a souvenir.

Did not attend Zoom Yoga this morning, due to hand trouble. Chat with MaDa by phone. Help M with cable questions. Grocery shopping in Friendship/Shadyside. After a quick change of clothing and donning a sparkly star headband and former workplace ID, I volunteered at Maker Date at the Gift Bag table organized by Brenna. Brenna kindly replenished the swag items throughout the evening. Thea gave me an introduction to the table at the beginning of the evening. At the end of my 2-hour shift I gave a few pointers to Chaco, made a outer space headband with gently glowing antennae and blue LEDs below 2 of the eyes. After bidding farewell to Chaco, I drove home.

Made phone calls. Went with M to pan-Asian mart and to the fishmongers.

Stopped by near MVK's former building. All OK. Zoom Spanish class, SPC rehearsal and snacks by JS afterwards.
FRI 15 SEPT 2023
Specialist appointment with JDA. New medical equipment. Went with M to the fishmonger; to visit S, R, and K; and to Palenkeng de Malaking Aguila in Shadyside. Watched Jeopardy! with M and AGT with D in the evening.
SAT 16 SEPT 2023
Skipped Zoom Yoga due to injury. Had a floor shift which included a observation of the fossil excavation site and a DITT spotlight. JS with P, D, and their friends A, G, and son enjoyed a session by my DITT Spotlight. We then went to dig for fossils, and then up to Wildlife. Great fun! Went home before updating my timesheet; mac and cheese for dinner.

The Homily focused on a father who was observed to bless himself and his very young son with Holy Water. As the years passed, the boy was observed to stand on tippy-toe to reach for the font of Holy Water, to bless himself with the Sign of the Cross. The concept of the father modelling pious behavior was gradually passed on to his very young son, until the boy could bless himself.
Lunch, followed by family Zoom/(GoMe) organized by me, with M, D, JO, GrMc, BeMc, WA. Went to building annual picnic. Sat at a table soon populated by my neighbors SaRo, JasRe, LePr, the Feen... women, AlLy. and AnLe stopped by. Caught up on blogging.

NHI meeting at work with Diorama educational ideas and tour of entomological research facilities with Ainsley S. Meeting, handed off items for recycling, and I did meditative landscape. Lunch, fetched vegetables for dinner. Sang to the West Coasters after dinner and before the Jeopardy! Second Chance watch with M and D.

Floor shift this morning at work; ran into Margaret on way in to work. After lunch D and I went to JCC for administrative issues. Watched Jeopardy! with M with D.

Doctors appointment at the Mercy complex this morning. Language class this afternoon; set up Bible Study for D and M. Choir rehearsal, with A-M hosting snackage. Helped M with online stuff till late.

During the Homily Fr Dan spoke of the difficulties and joys of serving as a missionary deep in the Amazon River basin, 2000 miles upstream. He served people who only celebrated Mass once a year. He mentioned St Lucy, patron saint of River Blindness. He finished his homily asking us to pray for vocations, to pray for the people, and finally to pray for evangelization.

This morning I went back to the grocery store in Bloomfield, and purchased crabs at the Strip District. We cooked them up, and WA joined D, M, and I for lunch of egg/vegetable torta, nilaga, and crabs, with rice, of course.
After several tries, I got my COVID SpikeVAX booster, as well as a seasonal item and ice cream---delicious!

The film, narrated by Kenneth Branagh, consisted of quotes from her diary (read by Glenn Close), remembrances and reminiscences of people who knew her before and after her family went into hiding; and interviews of her father, the only survivor of Het Achterhuis, and Miep Gies, who brought them food daily. There was documentary footage, as well as a short clip of teenaged Anne looking down from her window at a wedding party in the street. Overall, it was quite a moving film.

Last class with Kathy. Bittersweet, uncertain when next demi-semestre will be.
Went groceries with M to Pan-Asian and fishmonger in the Strip District, more groceries in Bloomfield and in Friendship/Shadyside, and more at Palenkeng de Malaking Aguila in Shadyside. Missed a late lunch meeting with a friend to take care of family needs. Jeopardy (on delay).

Early 3 loads of laundry. D taped my injury. Attended to electronic issues for all three of us. Late lunch chez D and M with WA midafternoon. Co-op stuff.

At about 14.00h k and K arrived, toting much food and left their bags in my home. They had told M that they were arriving at lunchtime Friday. I attended my Zoom language class with Prof A at M and D's. I then went to rehearsal, while k and K "picked up items they had ordered." I asked k late in the evening whether she could hum the sheet music version of "Ama Namin," which I readily forwarded to BG. k then asked at about 23.50 whether M were going to Mass tomorrow---I said no. She said that she had to be out of the house for k and K to set up. After a little discussion, we decided that WA should bring M to Mass. Time for bed.

I went early to Mass to prepare to lector the early televised Mass. Fr Kris Stubna celebrated, Brian was at the Beckerath console. D, M, and WA attended Mass. Today we celebrated the Feast of Ss. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels. The celebration included:

The Mass was celebrated, and Fr Kris made mention of the cause a célébre.
We were instructed to let M enter their home first. Surprise! There were a total of 17 of us that morning. M said later that she thought it was just k and K. All her children, her Stateside sibs, their spouses, some of their kids were present. And, of course, there was (as MV says,) "eating eating eating!" J O and k had planned and organized it all. K with k made virtual tons of cuisine: Rice stick pancit, large shrimp, organic homegrown kamatis with basil, pepinos, broccoli with wild mushrooms, followed by a large Prantl's Burnt Almond Torte. Of course, we all sported our purple T shirts with matching silkscreened design throughout the day and evening.

Skipped Zoom Yoga today.
Breakfast was courtesy of K and k. We had an appointment for a Nationality Rooms tour in the late morning for ten of us with E. T verified us at the Info Desk. We visited the Ukrainian, Turkish, Israel, African, Early American, (popped our head in the Austrian Room), and the Philippine Rooms, then the English, (popped our heads in the Scottish Room), and Irish Rooms.
We headed back to D and M's to play team games a la Minute to Win It. Photos and videography were taken of Uncle B and M dancing. The last team game consisted of voting for which of the siblings were best described by a given turn of phrase. The results were prominently posted in the living room.
