MON 22 APR 2019- Funeral for Dr. Ric. Mom and Dad and I went to the funeral at St. Paul Cathedral. The Mass was lovely. Fr. Kris presided, with Tom Bainbridge serving. There was a recent professional color photo of Dr. Ric at one side of the altar; an urn with his remains were close. Don provided music from the Beckerkath, and the cantor was wonderful.
Fr. Kris provided a pertinent homily; Mia and Izzy delivered a heart-felt short eulogy at the end of the Mass. At Mass we were surrounded by his family and his colleagues; PAMS members were throughout the congregation.
A lunch followed at his family's home. Pinoy and Mediterranean dishes were featured. We left for home after Mom stressed to his young family members that they are Family.
I remember Dr. D saying to me this weekend that we wished he could be with us longer, but that would have meant prolonging of his pain.

Dinner was with W, MM, B, S, K and k at a Taiwanese restaurant. B, k, and myself ordered noodle dishes. Dim sum, spicy fish, eggplant, and another noodle dish rounded out the repertoire.
TUE 23 APR 2019- A very early physical therapy session with Candice. Ran an errand Downtown, then went shopping. Dinner with Mom and Dad, Jeopardy!
WED 24 APR 2019- Bible Study facilitated by Fr Mike Darcy (~12). I volunteered to read, we ended up starting to read the Gospel reading (Jn 20:19-31) first---about "Doubting Thomas." Great discussion. I noted that there were parallels between the new commandment that Jesus gave in the past to his disciples on Holy Thursday ("That you love one another as I have loved you.") and a passage in this reading about serving/service to one another ("As the Father has sent me, so I send you"). He foreshadows the future by referring to the Holy Spirit's arrival on Pentecost ("He breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'")
Went to get my hair cut by L up the street later that day.
THU 25 APR 2019- Early morning physical therapy. Good hair day! Shq stopped by. No choir practice. Tito Ben Pacifico passed away today. More arrangements later.
FRI 26 APR 2019- Slow day.
SAT 27 APR 2019- Shopping at CVS with mom. "Crazy Rich Asians" Spring Ball for Philippine-American Performing Arts of Greater Pittsburgh (PAPAGP) at the University Club. Drove D and M. Sat with ML and Dr Pat, Dr R, and Tita T and Tito L.
Highlights included:
Three gals in tulle--- photo! AweSome Pig/ Lechon! Choreographed dances to the CRAsians soundtrack. Various permutations of people photos.
SUN 28 APR 2019- Lectored (1) at the noon Mass with Deborah D (2). Fr. Mike D celebrated the Mass, servers were Ted W and E. Christina Mc pinch hit as the cantatrice, with Ken D at the Beckerath console. The choir is on vacation today, after Holy Week festivities.

Aided in the preparation of spaghetti with meaty sauce for the visitation of Tito Ben Pacifico at Ball Funeral Chapel and Ritz Banquet Hall. I carpooled there with Tita Cora. M and D went there with Tito B & Tita N. We all had a chance to pay our respects before and after the service.At a little after 3PM there was a service celebrated by Fr Ron from Freeport, which consisted of the music and Liturgy of the Word.

TUE 30 APR 2019- Ran an errand downtown, thanks to Dad. Picked up a request/ hold at the Carnegie Library Main Branch. Also a book on Color!

Easter Sunday 2019- I saved seats for Mom and Dad, as I arrived a few minutes before them. Fr. Kris Stubna celebrated the Mass, with Deacon Tim Deely. Linda O was our fearless cantatrice, with music ministry led by Don Fellows in the loft, with Ken Danchik at the Beckerath console, the St. Paul Cathedral choir, with Carnegie Brass and tympani.

It turns out, as Mom and Dad were heading out the door, that k and K were heading in. All 5 of us met W, MM, B and S at the all-Asian buffet for lunch/ brunch/ dinner/ supper, where I had made reservations. Then we headed to Lolo and Lola's home for games and chillin'.
K and k stayed until TUE 23rd APR 2019.

WED 17 APR 2019- Delivered choir Easter candy to those who ordered it from Bible Study. Fr. Mike Darcy led the discussion; we read and discussed this year's Gospel reading from John. There were 13 of us who attended, readings for Easter Sunday.
I had a meeting with a friend in South Oakland this afternoon, and I had submitted my proxy yesterday so that I could miss a building meeting. L[squared]. W and MM, B and S and I had dinner at Luma restaurant to celebrate various birthdays.MM, M and I had the entree crabcake salad--Mixed greens* cherry tomatoes* roasted red peppers* scallions* granny smith apples* mango vinaigrette. Various other dishes were ordered around about the table.
THU 18 APR 2019- Holy Thursday 2019- Morning physical therapy.
In the evening M and I watched while D attended the Holy Thursday Mass celebrated by Bishop David Zubik at the Cathedral. Deacon Tim Deely served, and I spotted Frs. Kris Stubna and Mark Thomas. After the Gospel, the washing of the feet by Bishop Zubik was accompanied by the choir singing Peter Latona's "Mandatum." This is the first Lent since the re-grouping of parishes in Fall 2018. The apostles were seated, Bishop Zubik washed each of their feet, carefully dried them, and kissed the feet. Our friend, Jeannette, the 6th apostle, was moved to tears. The 8th apostle was a young man (probably in the service, or just patriotic) who wore a T shirt emblazoned with "Don't Tread on Me." Fr Adam Potter delivered the homily. Nathan and Stephanie S and Tamika participated in the Presentation of the Gifts. During Communion I spotted Dad, my neighbor Ann L**, my fellow lector Sarah R, Perrin and Nancy, and Alex and Christen's parents. The Communion meditation was

FRI 19 APR 2019- Good Friday 2019- Early afternoon meeting with my ankle surgeon. Stephanie, the med student, did my intake. Got a new brace. Stopped in chez M-- saw the televised veneration of the Cross with the 2 choirs singing Misere mei, Deus (G. Allegri). I arrived at the Cathedral in time for the collection for sacred places in the Holy Land. During Communion a piece new to the choir this season was sung

and the Post- Communion Meditation was

which I recorded.
Choir dinner after Good Friday service @ an American restaurant nearby. I had the fish sandwich...with tons of fish! Jonathan P was there, as were ~17 more of us at one table. Richard T also was spotted, and JP stated that it was time (after 3 sightings of RT) for a photo. We had a group photo, as well. A wonderful time was had by all!
I turned in early on Friday.
SAT 20 APR 2019- As Shq had a death in the family, I did not see her today. I was sent on a grocery-shopping errand to find, among other things, hot crossed buns.
Do not look for hot crossed buns in a grocery store, grocery store bakery, or stand-alone bakery the day before Easter in Pittsburgh. You are guaranteed to be disappointed.
I made two trips, one to Bloomfield and another to Friendship/Shadyside. All this after I had made phone calls to various stores and bakeries. Note to self--- order baked goods ahead of time.
I helped M with her Facebook posts SAT evening.

WED 17 APR 2019- A light goes out here in Pittsburgh for the mortal life of Dr. Ric A. He was a great dad to his girls, and a great husband to his wife, D. He was a great doctor, as head of his department at work, as well as for PAMS, and even served as its president. He passed away in the wee morning hours this morning. His light is not extinguished, but moved to a higher place.
Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord. May perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

MON 01 APRIL 2019- Saw the ophthalmologist regarding a new problem. Bella, Tran, and the doctor allayed my fears of a visible cause. SEED meeting at AS this evening.
TUE 02 APRIL 2019- Early afternoon appointment for physical therapy. Cancelled all other meetings, including a dinner appointment, due to an immediate issue that had to be taken care of.
WED 03 APRIL 2019- Drove Dad and I to Bible Study. Dorothy and I read the 2nd and first readings, respectively, for the Fifth Sunday in Lent, Cycle C. Went to D and M's to help out the rest of the morning. Made a medication run to Shadyside/ Friendship in the afternoon. Helped M plan their Reunion.
THU 04 APR 2019- Went groceries and window shopping on the Southside today. Choir practice.
FRI 05 APR 2019- Met with Erin to talk and to have a snack near the CMoA. Went to Carnegie Mellon University Alumni Concert Hall to watch The Wedding/ Svadba by Ana Sokolovic and
a suite of songs called Berlin to Broadway, with music by Kurt Weill, lyrics by Berthold Brecht, Ira Gershwin, Langston Hughes, and others...The Suite included a hypnotic rendition of "Mack the Knife" performed mostly by all the male performers.
D's friend, S, her daughter A performed as a friend of the bride-to-be in The Wedding opera. The opera was much appreciated for its play with sounds of Serbian words. The play will travel with the cast to Serbia this summer!

SUN 07 APR 2019- Stopped by D and M's before Mass. They gave me a card and a bag of gifts!
I received a blessing from Fr. Kris Stubna before lectoring for today's 10AM Mass. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Kris, Fr. Mark Thomas, and Deacon Tom Berna with three very young altar servers, Linda O cantoring, and Ken D at the Beckerath console. I was honored to be the lector for this Mass, on the Fifth Sunday of Lent.

DR and I went to the Porch for Lunch-- Cinnamon Sticky Buns in a Cast-Iron Skillet, Scrambled Eggs, and Biscuits with Sausage Gravy. We went to the baby animal petting zoo, and spent time near the camel, llama, and zebra. Went to the Carnegie Main Public Library to pick up a book and tour the 2nd floor. Said hi to Diane C, among others.
Made our way to the University of Pittsburgh Charity Randall Theatre for the production of Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim. Before the first act was over, the play production got even more exciting---the theatre was evacuated and the fire department arrived! The production featured a keen orchestra from the balcony, including a timely percussion section, an interesting cow, "Milky White," and a company that shared great chemistry, which showed.
We whisked to our favorite Mediterranean spot for dinner, where we spotted 2 Pittsburgh celebrities, from the Church and from the Cathedral of Learning. We enjoyed

After dinner, we made our way to the Milkshake Factory, where DR and I obtained a peanut butter and a Jake Shake, respectively. (Jake Guentzel scored on Saturday!) Jake's shake is made with hot fudge, cookies and cream, and brownies... whenever Jake scores, Jake’s Shake is half off the next day at their downtown, South Side, and East Liberty locations.

MON 08 APR 2019- Went with Maureen and her sister, MG, to Pamela's in Shadyside for lunch today. Had the cheeseburger with Lyonnaise potatoes. After a short walk, they dropped me off at work.
Food Chemistry tour of the Walton Hall of Egypt and the Snow House with a high-school-aged class of 12+2. (Ellen accompanied them.)
TUE 09 APR 2019- Met Lee for a jaunt for Sushi Fuku. Got choir candy orders in order.
WED 10 APR 2019- Late afternoon physical therapy appointment. Gave Y my email address. D and M and I went to Costco to purchase choir snackage and to have dinner.
THU 11 APR 2019- Tonight I am the Choir Snackage Fairy. Snacks included:

GS cookies- boxes of Thin Mints, Trefoils Shortbread, and Savannah Smiles

Walkers Shortbread and Godiva chocolates, hand-carried by none other than the inimitable Jonathan Pinto, who showed up for practice late (as was ususal in the past). Yep, that's right, JP (Lord almighty, where did he come from?)
Turns out that JP will be singing with us, at least until Easter.
Picked up choir candy, and organized distribution of it, too.
FRI 12 APR 2019- Physical therapy in the morning, Drove Dad home from his dental/Os appointment. Delivered some choir candy.
SAT 13 APR 2019- Delivered more choir candy. Shq stopped by at noon.
SUN 14 APR 2019- D and M and I went to Chinese cuisine at Bloomfield. M and I went to the 16.00 Mass at the Oratory. Nice nap in the afternoon.

Hello, many of you are asking for news about the great organ. For now, we have little information about the state of the interior of the cathedral.
TUE 16 APR 2019- Awoke ~ 06.00 and listened to the BBC News. The sky looking West was a rose color at that hour. "Red skies at night, sailor's delight. Red skies at morning, sailors take warning." Catching the bus at ~ 07.55 AM, the east face of the Cathedrals (St. Paul and Cathedral of Learning) on 5th Avenue appeared golden in the morning light. Like volcanic eruptions, the flames of Notre Dame de Paris caused particulates in the air which caused the colorful sunrise.
Had physical therapy at 07.15, then took the bus to work to meet with my boss, PH, to update my password at work, and to attend the Docents' meeting. Had lunch at D and M. Met up with JP at Craig Street for a coffee/ tea break and then walked up to the bank. Ran into Richard T and a student on the way there. Had some nice chats. Preparing for dinner now with some fresh vegetables chez D et M.. B and S over for dinner. W and MM went to see the Book of Mormon downtown. We played Boggle until W and MM arrived.
