Quotes of the Day / Week
Quotes from my friends and I this past half week:
from yesterday, the Quote of the Day:
me: All my prayers answered in the church parking lot: Chocolate! [as Maureen points out the bag of chocolate in her trunk]
and this weekend, the Quote of the Week:
me: ...there's a chocolate factory where you live!! Can I go there? Just to smell?
my friend from out East: I'm sure there's a lot more interesting things to do than that....

Bakery run!
Off to a bakery run with Maureen to Highland Park! O joy...
She wants to get a pie for her brother, the same that is Fr. Mike's favorite.

I got one pie too, and we each got a slice of sweet or savory breakfast layered strata or pudding. We shared some madeleines, dipped cookies over the computer (the virtual hip replacement website and her Facebook links).

Smoking Ban in 90 Days
HOOray! Yesterday, Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell signed into state law a statewide ban on smoking, which will take effect in 90 days.
I hope this ban holds longer than the last one...I recall William and I dining in a small mom-&-pop establishment (The Original Oyster House in Market Square) on the day of the last ban. The next day, that particular smoking ban was lifted. William pointedly noted to me that that particular small establishment may not be governed by this law, so we may never again be able to dine-in smoke-free at that restaurant.

A lingering cold
I thought I was over my cold yesterday, but it has moved to my nose and to post-nasal drip. I awoke at ~6am, and couldn't get back to sleep. I discovered that I needed to sit ~upright to let my nose drain. My cough is not very productive.

So, this morning I watched two movies: Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion and The Wedding Planner. A milestone HS reunion is approaching for me---much of the "Romy and Michelle" movie brought tears and laughter to me. Its screenwriter is of "The Simpsons" fame.
The Wedding Planner takes place in San Francisco. Elements of it reminded me of other movies---The Graduate, and Roman Holiday.

I cannot taste anything. Everything has no taste, no smell. Only occasionally, when I drink plenteous fluids do I have a remnant of a sense of smell. Boo Hoo, pore li'l ole me! I am wondering what I should eat for lunch, beyond a snack of pizza for "elevenses."

Up early
to grade papers....It'll be unusually warm today, with highs in the mid-50s Fahrenheit. Fall has come and gone; winter's been here for a few weeks now.

I heard on the radio this morning that it was a balmy 66 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday, breaking the temperature records by a degree---the temperature records set in the late 1800's. I noted when I went out yesterday that it was humid (due to the rain), warm, and there was that scent of burning wood (probably due to fireplaces). The combination was slightly reminiscent of my visits to the Philippines.
It was also very cold last night....
