Visiting the Library

This morning I went to work to print out my email attachments from my bosses. I ran into Paul C, and we chatted (as I did with Melanie and Zuzana last time I was there). Upon request, I sent Zuzana an email about Christmas choir Mass times this year.

Stopped at the Carnegie Library, where I visited with my friends there, and picked up a reserve book I saw recommended. I said hi to Cathy L, who will be retiring as the head of the Music Department at the end of the year (she said to say hello to my friend S and to ask him when he will be coming to Pittsburgh), Don W, and Lisa R (with whom I sat down and chatted with), and Sheila.

Headed to Mom and Dad's, whence I brought some of my papers home in the rain, and then settled down for a long winter's nap.

Dad called, and asked me to store some food in my freezer. I came over to their home, to find it empty of them.

Computers and Computer Training

For the past two evenings Maureen and I have been researching and buying her new toys (computer external hard drive and new notebook). So we researched and went to Staples in our neighborhood and up by Nancy C's neighborhood. We sat at Starbucks and enjoyed cool drinks in the cooling night air, and quickly escaped the cigarette smoke at the quickly-occupied next table last night.

I helped her back-up her ailing computer last night, and helped her do a skeletal set-up this evening before going to help Mom with travel computer questions. I also made reservations tonight for a fantasie musical.

Today for the best part of the morning involved a group training computer class. Renae was there, it was fun to see her again. Quite useful information.

Up at 5

So, I went to sleep at about 23.00 last night and awoke at 5.00...I was busy in my preparations ( called Verizon Wireless, my cell phone carrier) and at the computer until about 9. I went grocery shopping with Mom and Dad in the Strip District, then we had lunch and more shopping at the Big Bird Market District. I took a nap 16.00-17.00, then played with my cell phone some more.

I helped Mom with laundry, and also with future vacation plans via frequent flyer miles.

I spent the afternoon

Today I arose at 5, went back to sleep at 7, and took a little catnap just a little while ago.

After Dad ('d like to think inadvertently) deleted ALL my files from the family computer, I spent the afternoon recreating the files and emailing Mom some of the files for future reference. I failed to restore my CV. I can't believe that he did that after I expressly told him that they were important files, important in case of an emergency. I am almost at the point where I have lost hope in his ability.

This Week in June 2010 II, Car Day

Monday day I went with Marissa and the children to the Mount Washington library (closed) and to the Science Center (open!). Monday evening Maureen and I went to Waterworks Mall, where we looked for travel items for her and I got sushi.

Tuesday morning Mom and I picked up my car at the shop, where it has been in repairs since Thursday afternoon. I spoke with my weight management coach, and then went for physical therapy. Tuesday was a Day for the Car, as the battery was dead after I exited physical therapy. Mom and I went shopping, and in the evening Maureen and I went to the Waterfront. Shops were closing soon after we purchased her swim cap.

Yesterday (Wednesday) I went for my annual blood work. I went to the computer lab afterwards, and completed some computer work, as well. Mom and I watched "America's Got Talent," where we noted that a large number of Portland contestants were pushed through to Vegas.
~~~
Time for physical therapy.
Off to Mass
We're off to Mass, Lola's having an adventure. I've looked up possible vacations for her and Dad. I'll show them to her after Mass this late afternoon.
~~~
22.59
Mom and I went for a short walk this evening and we met a Pilipina nurse during our walk.

Up Early on a Sunday in June 2010

I'm up early on this Sunday in June. I'll go back to sleep to get more rest. Had a long day yesterday. A continuation of my day yesterday is below.

After an abbreviated lunch yesterday, I helped Mom and Dad with vacation plans, took a two-hour nap, and chatted by phone with Luce and Nancy. It was girls' night out last night with Christina, Karina, and Nancy at an Italian chain in the strip district. We dined and chatted for about three hours. Great fun.

I returned home (thanks to Christina) and had a nice chat with Pratima.

Early Morning I, June 2010; Yoga June 2010

I awoke ~ an hour ago, early for me on a Saturday morning. Am organizing the papers I photocopied yesterday night.

I'm planning on going out with the girls tonight for dinner. It will be fun, but we'll miss Maureen, who is visiting family.

~~~
13.00
Karina and I went to yoga in Squirrel Hill, after she repaired a necklace's jump ring connection for me. We had yoga class for a little less than two hours, explored Squirrel Hill a bit, then are both at our respective homes to cool off from the muggy, hot morning.
Up Early Again, June, 2010
I'm up early, again, as I was two days ago. Instead of pulling a 19-hour day, I'll go back to sleep THIS time.
~~~
18.35
I slept in until 9.30 this morning, then took care of other things. Went shopping for groceries with Mom in the Strip District and at Giant Eagle. William and family will be here for dinner shortly. I prepared the salad and Italian-colored salad fixings (Green sweet peppers, white onion, and tomato slices) with raisins (I'm predicting some of us will have salad with our raisins...). Also prepped some baby carrots.

~~~
After dinner the children played piano, and after a request by Beata, we broke into karaoke. Solomon also played with toys from the guest room...Disney mouse and a sand shovel.
After the group departed, Maureen picked me up and we organized a template for her basic wardrobe for her trip. It was fun.
Beginning of June 2010
Yesterday was the first day of June 2010. I awoke ~5:30 am and took care of various questions and issues:
Got an appointment for physical therapy evaluation
Asked questions on the phone about insurance, my (lost) hip/s card and needed preventive antibiotics, and using my battery charger at different voltage levels (no converter needed, just the adaptors).
I made spaghetti with white clam sauce with Mom, and a lovely salad for us to enjoy for lunch (and later for dinner).
*
Today, I awoke ~5:30 and took two long naps as I did yesterday, but not before going to morning Mass and inviting Anu to the Sunday reading Bible study by Fr. Drew.
I went for an evaluation of my health problems by Cara, PT.
And I attended Parish Pastoral Council, where we discussed updating the website and Elaine, Carmella, and I received thank you gifts for our time on Council. Matt will receive his later.
It is pouring down rain, so Tom gave Elaine and I rides home.
End of Reunion Weekend
I retrieved Mom and Dad from the airport after they went for Mom's class reunion. They had a great time, and enjoyed Chicago, as well as time with Uncle Dino and family. We enjoyed eating ensaymada when we got to their home.
Mom and I watched While You Were Sleeping, with Sandra Bullock. We enjoyed the movie. Dad watched part of the last 20 minutes with us.
Holy Trinity Sunday 2010
Before choir practice today, Judi gave me great advice about electronics!
After choir and Mass (during which James W's mom, James W's mom's son, and Stephanie sang with us; as well as Christina Mc sang as a chorister), Stacy, Regina, and I dined on pan-Asian food. I tried the Lard Nar (LUV those wiiide nooodles!), chit chatted about about relationships, and enjoyed our lunches (and for some of us, smoothies). As we exited, we ran into Charles, who was also on the way to pan-Asian bliss (a.k.a. noodles with chicken). I joined him, we chatted over lunch about our summer plans, and parted ways.
I caught a three-hour nap, and am making lists for this summer...Also catching up on email.
Computer project at the Library
After I visited the doctor's office (where I noted the doctor's spouse and nice artwork in the waiting room), I stopped by Maureen's place, where we had pizza and lemonade and chocolate. She was expecting a phone call, and when my parking meter ran out, I departed.
I purchased an ankle wrap at the drug store.
Maureen called when I got home and we went to the campus library to take care of a project on vacation sites at the computer lab.
I called Karina, and promised to call her when we exited the library. We picked her up, headed to Giant Eagle (just as the skies opened up), and got drinks there. We saw Vicki E. and Grace M. there. We then headed to Waterworks Mall for book-browsing and dinner.
Rainy, Rainy beginning of the week
Monday and Tuesday have been rainy, rainy days. Cool, too (~50-60 Fahrenheit). Monday I ran some errands downtown. I walked from Heinz Hall to near the Kaufmann's Clock to catch a 71A bus home. Tuesday I picked up Mom and Dad from Mom's doctor's appointment. We drove to the hairdressers, where she received a stylish cut. We made an appointment for about six weeks from now. I also went grocery shopping, and ran into Kathy L from the Carnegie. We chatted for a bit.
Then, dinner last night and meet up with Susan at folk dancing to hear the Balkan group play music whilst the folk dancing continued. I danced intermittently from 19.30-22.00.
This morning, I went to the Newman Center to attend study of this Sunday (Pentecost)'s readings. The event is "on vacation" until early June. Karina arrives from the airport, I'll pick her up from the bus stop this afternoon!
~~~
20 May 2010
9.35

So, it was a beautiful afternoon yesterday when I met up with Karina at the bus stop. We loaded her bags into the car, and ensured her safe arrival at home.

Mom and I dined in the Strip District (sans Dad, who had a tummy flu) for dinner, and then I dropped Mom (and our leftovers) off, to pick up Karina for a Young Adult Church event in Shadyside. (We were half an hour late).

We retrieved her car, then walked on Walnut Street in the shopping district, then called Maureen to join us around the time her dance class lets out. She joined us for a stroll, then all three of us ladies went grocery shopping in Shadyside (Late!).

Good Friday 2010

So, I had my usual breakfast this week of half a banana. After lunch I watched the last 2/3's of the Seven Last Words of Christ with Mom and Auntie Chi, as Dad was volunteering for television ministry. Then I left to go home to pick up a few things before I stopped by Mom's home. I took an dose of Imodium upon Mom's urging, got my choir folder, and brought some diluted CVS electrolyte replacement beverage to choir. The guys were practicing "Into Your Hands I Commend My Spirit" on the choir landing when I arrived.

Good Friday service was different, as Fr. Breier and Fr. Goetz celebrated Mass instead of the Bishop, who was in the hospital with a kidney stone today.

The music ministry provided:
Silence for the Entrance
Psalm 30: "Into your hands, Lord." (C Waddell)
Gospel Acclamation: "Glory to you, O Word of God.." (R. Proulx)
Passion Narrative: "Jesus, Remember me" (J. Berthier)
Intercessions: "For the Sake of your Son.." "Have Mercy, Lord."
Presentation of the Cross: "O Come, Let us Adore" (J. Foley)
Veneration: "Were You There?" select verses, Pie Jesu (A. L. Webber)-sung by Christina and Karen R., Crucifixus (R. Farrell)
Collection: O Sacred Head Surrounded
Communion: Attende Domine
Choral Meditation: De Profundis (W. A. Mozart)
Silence for the Closing

After Good Friday service, Auntie Chi and I went shopping at Waterworks Mall. I got keychains, Dad's newspaper, and adaptors for Europe. Just Adaptors.

After dinner I picked up Kelly at William and Marissa's home (where she was playing hide-and-seek with Beata and Solomon) to go meet Charles and Susan and their friend Jan in Friendship for a gallery crawl. Turns out Jan went to architecture school with our schoolmate Peter K, who was last recycling automobile materials for architectural uses in New Mexico. We got a few pictures from the evening, and Charles and I decided that Kelly is the most entertaining of my siblings and me.

I dropped off Kelly and headed home, and here I am typing so you can read this story.

Beat the Crowds: Laundry, Brunch, and Tea

Slow day today. I finished my loads of laundry early and then Maureen and I beat the crowds to brunch for French toast (regular and croissant caramel walnut, for Maureen and for me, respectively). We walked to my home for hot Irish tea and to warm up and dry out from the cold, slushy streets.

We looked at my atlas and travel journal notes and talked about our travel experiences. I just received a call from her that she is home safe.

Snowbound 7 Thursday

This is the first day the University of Pittsburgh will resume normal operations.

I went to morning Mass this morning. Fr. Utz celebrated the Mass, Fred lectored, John served at the altar, and Don provided music ministry. Approximately ~24 people received the Eucharist in the congregation. I talked to Don after Mass about choir practic, travel, travelling the roads, and preparedness for snow storms.

I plan to stop by campus today.
~~~
19.15
After breakfast, I promptly went home and took a long nap. Auntie Benita woke me up with a phone call. We chatted for a bit, mostly about being snowbound.
I went to M + D's to make some photocopies before heading to campus with Maureen to drop off my students' papers and to notify them of that fact.
We dropped off my DVDs at the Carnegie public library, and then we looked for travel books and DVDs. I saw and said hello to Kathy, head of the music library, and chatted for a bit with her and HK, one of my students who was glad that we were off from class this week.
Maureen and I peeled off our boots/clogs to warm up (with the help of some tea), and then I asked her to take some of my magazines. We headed out, she to her home and me to meet Charles for dinner.
Charles and I enjoyed dinner and I a coconut smoothie at the pan-Asian restaurant. I gave him a keep-the-house-warm housewarming gift, and we chatted for a while.
I stopped by Mom and Dad's place, and am checking my email and catching up on my blog.
Sunday Leading into Monday...January 2010
Sunday, Mom, Dad and I attended noon Mass, with me in the choir loft. Afterwards, we had lunch and I helped them with a few computer issues. I went home for a long nap.
Dinner at Mom and Dad's, then for an early bedtime, only to arise just short of six o'clock this morning.
Taught my class, ran an errand downtown (saw my birder friend on the bus and Susan E. in front of the library). Stopped in at a clothing shop. Caught a bus to Panther Central, for administrative stuff. Walked to a computer lab to print out more items to update my seating charts. Walked home, called Maureen, and walked to the Business Library on campus to pick up a book for Karina. Stopped by Karina's place; she treated us to hot chai and soup. We did some extension exercises as well as quad strengthening exercises (wall 1/2 squats), then took Karina for a walk / walked me home.
A fun time was had by all.
21 Days
On Wednesday and yesterday evenings Maureen and I went for a half-hour walk on each day. I also made arrangements and plans for my summer, mostly by phone, but also using the Internet.
Karina says that if one starts an activity and continuously keeps it up for 21 days, it then starts to become a habit. Maureen and I are making walking every weekday our habit.
